CHURCH HISTORY
- May 27, 2001 Rev. Steve Nicholes committed to preach regularly for the members of CDEM (Choonghyun Diaspora English Ministry). After the English Ministry at Choonghyun Church was closed in 2000, members of the ministry continued to have worship services and Bible studies in and around Choonghyun Church. One of the places we regularly met was the Hausbrandt coffee shop.
- April 14, 2002 Three elders were elected; David Hwang, Peter Son and James Lee after several months of serial seminars on church planting led by Rev. Steve Nicholes using the Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren.
- Nov 17, 2002 Cornerstone Community Church had an official opening service on Thanksgiving Sunday in the BIT computer Bldg B2.
- Dec 19, 2002 The statement of our church purpose was determined at SYME Korea during a meeting of church leadership. Our purpose is HONOR God’s name by causing people to HEAR the gospel of Jesus Christ, giving them a HOME in His family, training them to live a HOLY life and equipping them to HELP others.
- March 30, 2003 The first Easter Passover Dinner, organized by Heidi Nam, was celebrated at CCC. Since then the Easter Dinner has become one of our regular activities.
- Since early 2003, when Pastor Larry Nickel joined CCC, he and Pastor Steve Nicholes have alternately (bi-monthly) preached thematic and Bible exposition sermons.
- Beginning in 2003 CCC began to support missionaries and currently supports 12 missionaries: Kumbuke Piyadas of Sri Lanka, Eric Asare in Ghana, etc.
- On April 4, 2004 six deacons were elected and the Church Charter was adopted. The six deacons were Paul Chung, Samuel Kim, Joseph Oh, Sylvia Rim, Marie Cho, Mi-Hae Kim. Joseph served as a church treasurer before he and his family left for USA in 2006.
- The church leadership changed in 2006 when Peter Son decided to serve as a deacon and church treasurer after finishing his elder term. Casey Oh joined the deacons in 2007 and is now serving as a church treasurer.
- On October 3, 2007 The first baptism was held during the church retreat in Yangpyeong. The following were baptized at that time: Sooik Hwang, Hyunkyoo Lee, Kwangrim Choi and Paul Son.
- CCC had the first baby dedication ceremony for Hyunho Chung, Sunho Oh, Junho Oh, Minsub Shim, and Abby Lou Nicholes on July 28, 2002 and the second baby dedication for Joseph Nam, Minkyoo Lee, Chanho Oh, Hyemin Shim, and Junhyun Yu on October 31, 2004.
- In 2007, two wedding ceremonies were held at CCC for Matt and Rebecca Miles on April 15 and Cin Khan Tuang (Tuangno) and Thawng Suan Cing (Leleuh) on December 9.
- Pastor Steve Nicholes and his family have served with Word of Life since they came to Korea as missionaries in the early 1990s. In 2000 Word of Life established SYME (The School of Youth Ministries in English). This SYME program is now spreading out to Japan, Taiwan and China in East Asia. To accomplish this ministry, they are now staying in Japan after a four-month sabbatical in the States beginning December, 2006.
- In May 5, 2008 CCC has tried to move to an auditorium of Montessori kinder garden at Dogok-dong, Seoul.
